WE HAVE OUTSCORED OUR OPPONENTS IN INNINGS 1-6...

227 RUNS to 218 runs.

In innings 7-9, we have been OUTSCORED..124 runs to 58 runs!

What is going on?

Jim Thome melts down from the 7th inning on. Only ONE home-run from the 7th inning on versus 18 home-runs from the 1-6th innings!

Thome's BA is .324 for innings 1-6, Thome's BA for innings 7-9 is .147!

Omar Vizquel has a .236 BA and Ellis Burks a .182 BA from the 7th inning on.

What the heck is going on?

Omar Vizquel BA .327 versus .236
Jim Thome .324 versus .147
Ellis Burks .304 versus .182
Travis Fryman .269 versus .100

What a bunch of tired old sissies.

maybe the team, the manager, and coaches could be subbed out after the 6th inning

Doesn't this really reflect the effectiveness of the Bullpen rather than the offense? Pitching has given up half as many runs in the last three innings as in the first six innings. If the starting rotation is averaging 5 to 6 innings, then those last 3 innings are the responsibility of the bullpen. This was supposed to be one of the strong points of the Tribe this year. You can blame it on the lack of offense in the later innings, but that starts to sound alot like John Hart's theory that if we can just hit enough 3 run homers, it doesn't matter how many runs the opponent scores. True in theory, but not very practicle.

Good Point, Texas Tribe about the pitching. Still, the hitting is just stinky.

Starters are okay. Shuey is usually ok when he isn't hurt. Even Wickman (although erratic) has done a good job. Rincon is ok, too, although Manuel overuses him.

The other relievers, though, leave a lot to be desired. Paronto is a joke. Wohlers should get his consistency back in the minors and then be brought up. I don't understand why Nerio Rodriguez doesn't play. At least let him show what he can do.

This is certainly one frustrating season-takes me back to the sixties and seventies.

But the same hitters who are stinky from the 7th inning on are pretty darn good from innings 1-6.

Could this be a conditioning thing?

Our innings 1-6 scoring advantage seems to be as simple as we have had better starting pitching than our opponents. This starting rotation isn't bad. With Riske & Shuey out our bullpen is sad. And Riske was struggling before he went on the DL.

ps- We are soon going to see some better starting pitching, Likely that inning 1-6 scoring advantage is going to disappear.

You also must consider that the late inning differences in both pitching and hitting may be that the Tribe is just being out managed. The managing component becomes more important in the later innings as managers match up individual pitchers and batters. I don't think Charlie is on par with his opponents.

I'm still intrigued by our guys and their lack of hitting in the late innings. You're not supposed to pinch-hit for Omar, Ellis, or Thome...

So what's their excuse?
